An iconic heavy hauler ready to land almost anywhere

In general aviation, the Cessna 206 Stationair, commonly known as the Cessna 206, is recognized as a flexible heavy hauler akin to a flying pickup truck, capable of seamlessly handling large payloads and varied terrain.

The single-engine aircraft is a favorite for short air taxi flights and it’s also commonly flown for aerial sightseeing trips in scenic destinations like Alaska, Hawaii, and Cancun.

With a range of approximately 700 nautical miles, the Cessna 206 is a formidable option for short-distance trips. No matter where you need to land – whether it’s a runway, a dirt airstrip or an island – the Stationair can transport you directly to the starting point of your adventure. Its shock-absorbing landing gear makes it easier to maneuver bumpy gravel runways, and the aircraft can be outfitted with amphibious floats for water takeoffs and landings.

And nearly 60 years after the Stationair first took to the skies, it continues to offer the largest amount of payload for a single-engine piston aircraft. Some Cessna 206 models also include an additional cargo pod underneath the aircraft’s exterior, significantly increasing storage capacity.

The Stationair is part of Cessna’s iconic family of single-engine, high-wing piston aircraft. Today, the platform has evolved to meet the needs of modern travelers, and the Turbo Stationair HD – a variant with a turbocharged engine – is one of three-piston aircraft still manufactured by Textron Aviation under the Cessna brand. More than 8,000 have been built since its introduction in 1964.

Cessna 206 Stationair Interior

The Cessna 206 Stationair seats up to five passengers and features a maximum payload of 733 pounds, one of the aircraft’s dominating attributes. Indeed, it’s where the aircraft showcases its strength. The interior can easily handle bulky belongings like fishing poles and hiking gear, making it a go-to aircraft for adventurers traveling short distances.

A rugged yet refined interior invites passengers inside to get comfortable without feeling cramped. The aircraft’s high-wing design means every large leather seat offers unobstructed window views delivering plenty of natural light.

For additional carry-on bags, passengers can take advantage of ample under-seat storage. Next to the Stationair’s seats are 12-volt power converters to connect headsets or mobile devices quickly and easily.

If you need even more room for gear, the Cessna 206 interior also features removable cabin seats, opening the back of the aircraft for larger equipment. A large cargo door makes loading and unloading a breeze.

A unique combination of power and versatility places the Cessna 206 at the forefront of piston aircraft performance.

Its 300-horsepower Lycoming O-540 series piston engine is accompanied by a three-blade McCauley metal propeller, allowing the Stationair to reach a top speed of 174 mph. The Stationair can also easily operate in small airports, requiring less than 1,500 feet of runway for takeoff.

In the cockpit, pilots controlling the Stationair’s systems benefit from state-of-the-art technology designed to make flying a more seamless and intuitive experience. Newer Cessna 206 models come equipped with Garmin G1000 NXi, a cutting-edge touchscreen avionics system with features such as autopilot and Bluetooth connectivity to boost situational awareness and confidence during piston flights.
