Versatility and comfort in a class of its own

When Swiss aircraft manufacturer Pilatus Aircraft announced in 2013 that they were developing a turbine-powered jet to add to their fleet of renowned turboprops, travelers and aviation industry watchers were eager to experience the company’s newest design.

The result was the PC-24, an aircraft that combines the versatile capabilities of a turboprop with the spaciousness and modern finishes found in midsize jets, all while maintaining the low operating costs of a light jet.

Pilatus dubbed the PC-24 the “Super Versatile Jet,” and its users certainly reflect the title. The jet is flown for cross-country air charter service but is equally comfortable taking on freight and air ambulance missions, thanks to its unique cargo door.

For private jet travelers ready to enjoy jet comfort en route to their adventures, the Pilatus PC-24 is up for the task. The medium-light jet can even land on short, unpaved surfaces, a unique feature in the segment. According to Pilatus, it gives travelers access to almost 20,000 additional airports around the globe.

The Pilatus PC-24 may be a newcomer in the world of business jets, but in 2015 it made a rapid and successful entrance into the market: Today Pilatus has built more than 100 units, steadily catching up to other light jets currently flying today.

Pilatus PC-24 Interior

The flat floor design of the Pilatus PC-24 sets the tone for the passenger experience, further enhancing the spacious cabin size. The cabin features 501 cubic feet— the most of any light jet currently in production — with more than five feet of headroom inviting travelers to get comfortable.

And although six passengers can stretch out in the PC-24’s club seats, the jet accommodates up to 11 passengers in high-density configurations. Its class-leading 90 cubic-foot baggage compartment rivals those found in larger jets, easily fitting everyone’s personal items, from standard suitcases to a full-size motorcycle. To simplify the loading and unloading process, the PC-24 features a large 4.1- by 4.25-foot rear cargo door, one of the more popular turboprops features Pilatus incorporated into its jet.

Pilatus also leveraged many of the rugged capabilities found in its single-engine turboprop aircraft to boost the PC-24’s overall performance. The jet’s balanced field length of 2,930 feet allows it to operate out of airports often reserved for smaller aircraft, giving travelers access to more destinations while cutting down on ground travel. In addition to its standout short-field performance, the PC-24 is also the only aircraft in its class capable of landing on grass, gravel, and unimproved airstrips.

In the world of business aviation, the Pilatus PC-24 is widely considered a light jet, primarily due to its single-pilot certification and maximum takeoff weight. The aircraft can reach a top speed of 506 miles-per-hour and its two Williams International FJ44-4A deliver 3,420 pounds of thrust each. With four passengers on board, the aircraft’s 2,000 nautical mile range can take on five-hour trips without additional fuel stops.

Pilatus’ one-of-a-kind Advanced Cockpit Environment (ACE) system powers the flight deck of the PC-24, offering pilots four large LCD screens continuously displaying systems information, air traffic and maps to make flying more intuitive. The ACE also includes Honeywell Aerospace’s Interactive Navigation system, which allows pilots to compare flight plans with current flying conditions to make adjustments in real-time, if necessary.
