A business aviation pioneer still delivering value

Today it is recognized as an elder statesman in private aviation, but five decades after its introduction, the Cessna Citation I remains a cost-effective and reliable option for air charter and a multitude of missions worldwide.

Ideal for travelers packing light, the Citation I can accommodate up to five passengers and offers a total cabin payload of 755 pounds. It’s also a strong option for short hops across regions, easily transporting small groups eager to skip ground travel and save time. The aircraft can fly several popular routes nonstop, such as New York City to Chicago, Illinois, making it a go-to light or small jet for charter flights.

Initially developed in 1968 as the FanJet 500, the Citation I was Cessna’s first turbine engine aircraft, entering the market when business jets were emerging as popular travel options. During its 14-year production run, 689 Citation I jets were built. The active fleet has now amassed more than five million flight hours.

The Citation I provided the blueprint for the company’s renowned lineup of Citation private jets, including the Citation CJ1, the first jet in Cessna’s wildly successful model 525 family. Today, Citation jets remain in production, with aircraft like the Citation CJ3+ and Citation CJ4 Gen2 building on a legacy that began more than 50 years ago.

Cessna Citation I Interior

The Citation I features a sizeable cabin measuring nearly 13 feet in length, with double-club seating for five passengers.

Upon selecting an executive-style seat of your choice, you can also take advantage of added amenities onboard such as stow-away compartment tables and USB chargers.

Modernized interiors in Citation I models flown for fractional and air charter operations retain the craftsmanship of the airframe while enhancing the refined, yet casual cabin experience.

If you’re traveling with bags, the Citation I features two separate baggage compartment areas for storage: 17 cubic feet of space in the nose, and a larger 40 cubic feet storage area inside the cabin.

With four passengers on board, the Citation I delivers 970 nautical miles of range, making it a formidable platform for short-distance travel.

The jet’s Pratt & Whitney Canada JT15D engines produce about 2,200 pounds of thrust each, allowing the aircraft to reach a top cruise speed of 411 mph.

Many Citation I jets flying today feature state-of-the-art aftermarket upgrades designed to improve performance and meet the demands of modern travelers. A popular modification, the Eagle II package, significantly increases the aircraft’s range, expanding the number of nonstop routes for cost-savvy travelers. Upgraded models of the Citation I also feature shorter takeoff and landing distances in addition to improved fuel efficiency.
