Glossary
Air-Taxi: The new affordable air travel service utilizing very light jet aircraft to accommodate regional travel needs for those flying in small groups.
Very Light Jet (VLJ):
A jet engine aircraft that accommodates 3 to 6 people piloted by 1 or 2 pilots flying regional routes with ranges under 1,000 miles. The VLJ that Linear Air flies is the Eclipse 500, piloted by 2 pilots and accommodating 3 passengers.
On- Demand: Flying on the passenger’s schedule not the operator’s.
Regional Air Travel:
Flying between two points within 1,000 miles.
Private Charter: The usage of an entire aircraft at an hourly rate for a passenger’s customized travel needs.
Shared Charter: The purchase of individual seats on board an aircraft used for private charters to a specified location. Shared Charters offer the private air charter experience at a fraction of the cost for travelers who fly frequently to the same location.
Scheduled Service:
Flights flown on a schedule between two locations. Linear Air offers seasonal Scheduled Service to Nantucket from White Plains, NY and from Bedford, MA. In addition, the Outer Banks, NC are serviced from the Washington, DC area and St. Barths from San Juan, PR.
Per Seat: Air travel sold by the seat rather than by the aircraft. Per Seat is available on our scheduled service and shared charters.
Jet Card: A Jet Card is comparable to a debit card redeemable for aircraft charter. For a particular purchase level, the purchaser receives a designated number of flight hours for a specific class of aircraft. Linear Air does not offer Jet Cards, only on-demand charter which is more cost effective, allowing you to pay as you go.
Fractional: A Fractional is a fractional ownership interest in an aircraft. As such, it requires a capital investment. Monthly maintenance charges and hourly rates also factor into the equation. While Fractionals offer convenience, they are expensive and require a long-term commitment. Linear Air does not offer a Fractional program, only on-demand charter.
FBO: FBO is the acronym for "Fixed Based Operator." This is an aviation industry term for a private terminal. FBO’s are the facilities that Linear Air utilizes to provide premium service to its passengers.
FAA: The FAA is the Federal Aviation Administration, a division of the Department of Transportation (DOT). The FAA inspects and rates civilian aircraft and pilots, enforces air safety rules and regulations, and installs and maintains air-navigation and traffic-control facilities.
ARG/US: ARG/US is the acronym for The Aviation Research Group of United States, a leading independent safety auditing firm in the aviation industry. Linear Air maintains a Gold ARG/US safety rating, meaning ARG/US reviews and updates our pilot and aircraft records every 90 days to ensure our records are spotless.
Repositioning Leg:
Also known as a repo leg, positioning leg, empty leg, dead leg or deadhead, this term refers to any necessary aircraft movement on behalf of the charter customer to facilitate picking up and dropping off the customer.
Occupied Leg: Also know as a live leg, this is the segment of a trip where passengers are on board the aircraft.
Ground Wait: The time an aircraft spends on the ground after delivering a passenger until the passenger returns for departure. Ground wait is only applicable for same day round-trip or multi-leg travel.
Flight Time: The actual air time plus 6 minutes prior to take-off and 6 minutes after landing.
Duty Day: The FAA-mandated maximum length of time a pilot is allowed to be on duty. Duty day is taken into account when scheduling all charters and impacts the length of time on the ground for same day roundtrips and multi-leg trips.
